What We’re Reading: Los Angeles, Portrait of a City

Rainy days come few and far between in LA, but on stormy days like this one it’s always nice to curl up on the couch with a good book… Here’s what we’re reading:

Los Angeles, Portrait of a City by David L Ulin, Kevin Starr, and Jim Heimann

This beautiful 570 page hardcover traces the history of Los Angeles in photographs, starting with the first known picture of the city ever taken, and following its urban development from wasteland to lush metropolis, taking pause along the way to showcase important moments in history like the Rodney King riots and both Olympic games, all while paying homage to some of the city’s notorious residents, from surfers to celebrities.

A fascinating visual feast fit for any Angelino’s coffee table!
