The Rampture?

If you live in Los Angeles then you’re familiar with the construction on the 405 that began just over two years ago. Starting this past Friday at 10 pm, the Rampture closed the westbound Wilshire Boulevard to northbound 405 on-ramp and the northbound 405 to westbound Wilshire Boulevard off-ramp for the next 90 days.

This is only one of 8 ramp closures scheduled to take place 24/7 from now until September 2013.

The reconstructed ramps should alleviate congestion on and around the 405 and make merging safer and easier.

Until then, it’s hard to predict just how badly “The Rampture” will effect the daily commute, but one can assume it’s not going to be pretty.

Unlike last summer’s Carmageddon, it’s impossible to avoid the construction areas. Some experts predict commute times will double, others state that even commuters who don’t take the 405 will feel the effects.

So, until September 2013, adjust your travel times accordingly… and this might be a good time to invest in some moodscape CDs or to learn a second language.
